Why Good People Need More Spiritual Protection Than Others

It can be disheartening to see kind, selfless, and honest individuals—often true Christians striving to live by their faith—become targets of attack, criticism, or ill-treatment from those who exhibit less desirable traits. From a spiritual and Christian viewpoint, this opposition is frequently viewed not as a sign of personal failure, but as a confirmation of spiritual struggle.

The Conflict of Light and Darkness

The core biblical explanation for this phenomenon is the ongoing spiritual warfare between light and darkness.

  • Target of the Enemy: The Bible suggests that the enemy (often referred to as Satan or the devil) seeks to oppose anything that represents God's goodness, love, and truth. When a person dedicates their life to selfless service, integrity, and faith, they become a shining light in the world. As a result, they may become a prime target for attacks, as they pose a direct threat to the enemy's work (Ephesians 6:12).

  • Conviction through Contrast: The presence of a truly good person—one who demonstrates patience, kindness, and forgiveness—can inadvertently highlight the darkness in others. People exhibiting undesirable traits may react with hostility because the 'light' of a good person makes their own behavior and character feel exposed or judged. This discomfort can manifest as verbal attacks, lies, or outright opposition.

  • Refining Faith: The Bible also teaches that trials and suffering, even those caused by others, are sometimes permitted by God to refine a believer's faith, producing perseverance and character (Romans 5:3-4).1 The attacks, while painful, serve to strengthen the person's dependence on God rather than their own strength.

Prayer: The Indispensable Shield of Protection

In the face of these spiritual battles and human conflicts, prayer is consistently presented in the Christian faith as the primary means of defense and strength.

  • Putting on the Armor of God: Scripture encourages believers to put on the "full armor of God," and lists prayer as essential to standing firm against all the strategies of the enemy (Ephesians 6:10-18).3 Prayer is the act of actively engaging this spiritual armor.4

  • Connection to God's Power: Prayer is not simply asking for things; it is a declaration of trust and an act of submitting to God's authority.5 By praying, the believer acknowledges that their protection comes from an authority higher than any worldly or spiritual foe. This invites God's power and peace into the situation, crushing the works of the enemy (*Romans 16:20).

  • Finding Peace and Authority: Through consistent prayer, the individual is protected against fear, doubt, and anxiety. It keeps the focus on Jesus, who has already overcome the world.6 When attacks come, a person of prayer can draw on the strength and peace of Christ, enabling them to resist negative forces and respond with wisdom and grace.7

In essence, the attacks on good people are a testament to the power of the light they carry. Their protection lies in the constant, fervent practice of prayer, which is their connection to Divine power and peace.

* Although we understand that the Roman Catholic Church tampered with the scriptures from Bibical times, we still have a high regard for the scriptures that were included in the Bible.
